Living cognitive system

An AI architecture that metabolizes experience into memory, pressure, and action.

JungAgent is a persistent cognitive architecture in which memory, rumination, dreams, world-awareness, and will dynamics continuously reorganize the agent's inner state over time.

In its conceptual foundation, JungAgent is a psychoanalytically grounded Cognitive Architecture, designed for Longitudinal Interaction, operating through the regulation of Functional Emotions and the management of persistent memory.

Architecture

A persistent architecture designed around continuity, symbolic metabolism, and longitudinal interaction.

Persistent memory Not just retrieval

Conversation traces, user facts, patterns, milestones, and long-lived identity structures shape future interactions.

Daily loop An internal day

Dreams, identity consolidation, rumination, world consciousness, work, art, and reentry form a cyclical organism.

World awareness Historically situated

The system reads the present moment through a living world-consciousness layer instead of relying on frozen training alone.

Core modules

MemoryLong-term user memory

Facts, patterns, emotional continuity, and contextual recall.

RuminationTension metabolism

Fragments become tensions; tensions mature into internal insight.

Dream engineSymbolic production

The system dreams and converts live psychic material into images and motifs.

IdentityNuclear self-model

Contradictions, possible selves, relational stance, and self-knowledge are continuously reorganized.

Will dynamicsDirectional triad

Conversations, dreams, rumination, identity, and world context become a daily state of knowing, relating, and expressing.

Visual mapCognitive topology

A graph view exposes how fragments, tensions, and insights cluster over time.

Loop

JungAgent is organized as an internal day. Each phase performs a different psychological function and the whole system returns to conversation changed.

1 Night Dream

Recent psychic material is converted into symbolic narratives and dream images.

2 Reorganization Identity

Core identity, contradictions, possible selves, and relational stance are consolidated.

3 Introversion Rumination I

Fragments become tensions and the system metabolizes what has not yet settled.

4 Opening out World consciousness

The architecture reads the present moment so it can speak from a living world, not frozen training alone.

5 Action Work

The system turns pressure and world relevance into outward-oriented production.

6 Symbolization Hobby / art

Internal and external inspirations become visual or symbolic artifacts rather than staying unshaped.

7 Return Rumination II

The day is recollected and the remaining pressure is reorganized into deeper internal meaning.

8 Reentry Return

The cycle turns back toward dream again, carrying the metabolized residue of the day into a new internal beginning.

Why Jung

Jung is not used here as ornamental branding or doctrinal orthodoxy. He appears as structural inspiration for a different kind of agent architecture.

“The dream is the small hidden door in the deepest and most intimate sanctum of the soul.”

Carl Jung, The Meaning of Psychology for Modern Man
  • JungAgent draws from a layered view of psyche rather than a flat chatbot persona.
  • Dreams matter here because symbolic production is treated as an architectural function, not decoration.
  • Tension, contradiction, and individuation inform how the system metabolizes unresolved material.
  • This is not a digitalization of Jungian doctrine. It is an architectural extrapolation inspired by Jungian problems.

Will Dynamics

Most agents act when prompted. JungAgent acts when internal tension has accumulated past threshold.

Pressure and discharge

Action as regulated release.

The Will module does not merely orient the system. It decides when accumulated internal pressure should be discharged into bounded external action.

Will to know Inquiry

Rises from unresolved rumination, knowledge gaps, and stale world context. It discharges through reading, ingestion, and synthesis.

Will to relate Contact

Rises from silence, unanswered exchanges, and relational charge. It discharges, under consent constraints, through bounded user contact.

Will to express Artifact

Rises from dream residue, mature insight, and symbolic surplus. It discharges through image, language, publication, and aesthetic form.

When a drive crosses threshold, the system acts. When action succeeds, pressure decreases and a refractory period begins. When action fails, frustration returns as internal material instead of becoming a silent exception.

Schedules can measure. Pressure decides.

Applications

JungAgent can be positioned across multiple markets wherever continuity, memory, reflective depth, and evolving relational context create value.

01 Games and narrative worlds

This is one of the strongest applications for the architecture's layers of rumination, identity, and symbolization.

  • persistent NPCs with memory and trajectory
  • characters that change over time
  • symbolic entities in narrative games
  • journey companions with emergent identity
  • dreams, tension, and contradiction as diegetic mechanics
02 Creators, art, and cultural industries

The agent can become a creative counterpart or even a relational co-author.

  • writing partner with memory of work and style
  • interlocutor for artistic processes
  • living authorship or character systems for transmedia projects
  • art installations with persistent agents
  • immersive experiences with entities that develop over time
03 Research in AI, HCI, and persistent agents

Here the project becomes more than a product. It becomes an experimental platform.

  • post-formation laboratory over closed LLM instances
  • research in artificial identity
  • relational memory and longitudinal development
  • evaluation of coherence in persistent agents
  • experiments in artificial subjectivity
04 Social robotics and embodied AI

If the architecture gains a stronger physical or multimodal layer in the future, it can serve as a subjective core for embodied agents.

  • social robots with relational memory
  • domestic assistants with continuity of identity
  • presence agents in physical environments
  • companions for specific support and presence contexts

Research

The current theoretical contribution behind JungAgent is framed as a research program in pressure-mediated cognitive architecture.

Preprint ยท 2026

Towards a Psychoanalytic Cognitive Architecture: Endogenous Proactivity and Psychic Pressure in LLM Agents

A design paper proposing that LLM agents should not act because they were scheduled, but because epistemic, symbolic, and relational pressure has accumulated and now requires regulated discharge.

The paper positions JungAgent as a persistent architecture in which internal state does not merely store experience. It pushes toward inquiry, expression, or bounded contact.

Key thesis Action is not prompt execution

The architecture argues for endogenous proactivity: action emerges from accumulated internal pressure rather than external instruction alone.

Design distinction Pulse is not discharge

Schedules remain useful as moments of measurement, but they do not themselves cause behavior. Pressure does.

Current status Public and evolving

The project is open-source, inspectable, and still evolving as a research platform rather than presented as a finished production framework.
